Vanity isn’t just a glance in the mirror. It’s the moment before—the adjustment, the anticipation, the conforming to expectations, the conscious projection of self into space. This work explores vanity not as self-regard but as a system: a beginning, a performance, a claim to be seen. As a site of authority, I explore how the body prepares itself for view. Materials and forms evoke adornment and artifice—what glimmers, what ages, what conceals. Here, vanity is not a weakness. It’s a frame. A way of stepping into the world.

Of Vanity includes performance, photodocumentation, conceptual drawing, and writing. It extends traditions of vanitas and objecthood, but not toward decay and opulence—rather, toward recognizing spectacle as already present, already doing something.
