What is connection? For Revealing Encounter, I made an edition of 50 bear pins (silver, brass, gold). I offered them in exchange, advertised specifically to gay men in the bear community through the Growlr app. Each pin came with instructions: send me pictures, you decide how many. Anonymity was promised. Participation was open. What returned were fragments—images, confessions, refusals. Bodies shown. Stories shared. Nothing at all. Some asked for my picture in return. Intimacy unraveled into something else—performance, vulnerability, exposure. I’ve yet to resolve how to show this work. I hold it carefully. It holds me too.
